My first rant!!

I just finished the last of my SEP's (or better known as Parent-Teacher Conferences) It's so cool to say in two weeks I talked to every single parent.
It's probably a first-year thing but I have some parents that I am afraid of. Not that I'm scared-scared as in physical harm way but I'm nervous to talk to them. The funny thing is, that the ones I'm most nervous about are the parents of my smartest kids. Sounds crazy, huh?
Well I probably should sign off as I am procrastinating tommorrow's lessons. My class is having a substitute tommorrow - I'm going to a reading training. I really hate sub-days. Oh!! now that made me sound compulsive. It's not that I hate to leave my classroom, I quite enjoy a little break. The reason is that my work doubles, even triples. Now I don't want to sound like I'm raggin' on subs. (I know many.) My point is that each classroom is different and everytime a new sub comes in - I have to write out every single procedure and every single lesson plan and every little thing that happens in my day! Which, if you ask Anje, is alot.
Oh- mom brag time!! Anje's teacher came down to my classroom tonight to chat with me. She says that Anje is one of the smartest in her class. Mrs. Oliver also said that within the last couple of weeks, she has really noticed a mature change in Anje. Anje is working harder at focusing on the task at hand, on not talking to her neighbors, and on being a good example. I think it is an only child sort of spoiled-rotten thing but at my beginning of the year SEP - I was told that Anje required a lot of attention and she had a hard time sharing Mrs Oliver with the other students. Anje wanted everything to be about her. And I agreed - Lets face it, she has been surrounded by attention giving papas, moms, grandmas and greats her whole life. But now, I think she's maturing and coming to understand and I know this past little while has been so hard on her. We've had a lot of changes and Anje dosen't do well with change. She's had to move from her Cedar home and her Holden home, she's had to move way from her best friends Christian, Camille, Ashley, Maylee, Kierra and Lizzie to a neighborhood with no children. She's had to be the new girl at school three times and she's had to learn to share her mom with the world. And through it all she has been my ANGEL!!
I love you Anjeloobienettenoelolivasdefuerte!!
(wipe away the tears) Ok I'm really done - sub awaits - Hope to read from all of you later - Hugs and Kisses

I think all the teachers in the family will agree that having a sub is definately more work than actually being there. Not that the subs are bad, I wouldn't want to be in their shoes either, but it is a lot of work for the teachers as well!!
Glad to hear all is well :)
Love to both of you!!

I agree, I hated to have a sub come in. It was so much work to leave instructions on what to do, how to turn on the computers, work the file server, give lessons from non-existant textbooks, etc. I finally got to the point where I would just sit at my desk, tell them what to do, rest and have my smart students run the class. Unfortunately, that would not work in a normal classroom setting, but hey, when worse came to worse, everyone wanted to play computer games anyway
